About Me.
My field of expertise is General Compliance, Information Security,
Data Protection & Occupational Health & Safety, working for a
number of organisations in the GB energy industry. Most recently
for The Alternative Home Area Network Company (“Alt HAN Co”),
a technology company supporting the Smart Meter roll out.
I have run consulting businesses offering Risk & Compliance support to small & medium sized business for a number of years, operating under the names of Beacon Consultant Services and currently Elmar Risk Management. I live in Gloucestershire, have two daughters, aged 21 and 18 and live with my partner Jamie.
After graduating from college in 1995 with a diploma in Hospitality Management, I utilised my skills and experience in Customer Service roles, originally in the hospitality sector before changing career path to Telecommunications, working for Virgin Media as Pay & Reward Manager for several years. In 2005 I went back into Customer Service as Customer Experience Manager for Ecotricity, a renewable energy supplier in the very early days where renewable energy was seen to be a ‘fad’, paving the way for a lengthy career in several different roles and with companies both large & small.
I first started in the role of Compliance at RWE Npower to originally support with an OFGEM (the regulator) investigation into Sales practices. In 2016 I continued in the field of risk and compliance moving to a small renewable energy supplier, Good Energy before then wanting to see other aspects of the energy industry working in Power stations with more of a focus on information security, data protection & health and safety. I'm currently progressing through the NEBOSH Health & Safety level 6 qualification to add to my portfolio of qualifications in Data Protection, as a Data Protection Practitioner (PC.dp), ISO45001 (Health & Safety) & 27001 (Information Security) Lead Auditor.
In my personal world I've been learning Spanish for the past 5 years, working my way through the linguistic challenges of absorbing a new language and culture. I also give time to two charity ventures in Gloucester, a member of the Board of Trustees at Llanthony Priority, a medieval priory of Cannons dating back to 12th century which fell into disrepair and was salvaged as a restoration project in 2016 and is now local tourist attraction funded through lottery grants and donations. My other volunteering is at an independent theatre in Gloucester, which was on the brink of closure before being saved by volunteers.
I'm an active member of a number of committees, having chaired the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion committee at Alt HAN Co and a member of Energy UK’s Tackling Inclusivity & Diversity in Energy (TIDE), another of my passions to educate others on what ED&I is and how important and necessary it is for us as a diverse and inclusive population we are or strive to be in the UK. My approach is there is no room for inequality or exclusion. Every person has a responsibility to live side by side without fear of another and has the same opportunities as everyone else, no matter creed, colour, or background.
I'm also a qualified business coach mentor, a mental health first aider and have developed and delivered several self-development training courses in addition to training seminars and talks on compliance topics.
